Emigrants at Nightfall Mural (:45)
In 1942 theAlvin Post Office Mural called “Emigrants at Nightfall” was painted by Loren Mozley and placed on the post office lobby wall. When they renovated the post office in the early 1960s, the mural was removed from the wall, folded up and put in the basement. It was given to the museum several years before the 1979 flood. Had it remained in the basement of the post office, it would have been destroyed by the 1979 flood. Lee Casbeer restored the mural to its original state in 2015. Ruth and Nolan Ryan donated the money for its restoration.
